Neurodiversity Champions

Who are we?

We are a selection of children from Key Stage 2 who champion neurodiversity.  Neurodiversity can include dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, dyscalculia and more.  We think neurodiversity is a superpower.

What do we do?

We support neurodivergent children to feel welcome, happy and included in our school community.  We help other children in the school to understand neurodiversity through leading assemblies and doing learning walks around the school.  We have our sensory rooms ‘The Nest’ and ‘The Pod’ where children can go to help them get their feelings out and regulate.  We have sensory bags in each classroom for children to use to help them feel calm and ready to learn.

Autism Ambassadors Conference 2024
On 22nd October, our Neurodiversity Champions went on an exciting trip to The Amex Stadium in Brighton, by HET mini-bus, to attend the West Sussex Autism Ambassadors’ Conference.  The children were fantastic representatives of our school.  They loved hearing the inspirational talks from Autistic adults such as a firefighter, paramedic, comedian and the Olympic swimmer, Jessica-Jane Applegate, as well as a talk from one of our school parents - neuroscientist, Professor Simner.  The children also attended workshops run by Autistic people and discussed the strengths these people have – we really loved the graffiti workshop.
